In the very early morning light I spent 45 minutes watching this Great Blue Heron. After a while he started dunking his head into the water very slowly. I thought he had the fish between his beak and that he was either trying to keep it alive or enjoy his catch. It was not until later when I looked at the images I had captured that morning, that I realized he had speared the bass. His behavior was so interesting as he would keep dunking it almost to keep it alive. He then quickly and forcefully dropped his beak into the water and he came up without the bass and flew off. I remained in amazement.
